Swiss game development studio Blindflug already brought us the joy of nuclear war in its critically acclaimed strategy game First Strike. Its next game, Cloud Chasers, likewise tackles serious topic: Immigration. Heavy stuff, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for color and imagination.
Cloud Chasers is a survival game with roguelike elements. You play as a young girl named Amelia who struggles to cross the desert with her father in hopes of reaching one of the cloud cities where the privileged elite live.
But the gate to the promised land — The Spire — is heavily guarded by the elite’s machines, since they’re not big on the idea of desert-dwellers coming up from below. Much of Amelia’s survival depends on how well she pilots her glider in order to outsmart the machines and collect the water she and her father need to keep on journeying.
There are five deserts to traverse in total (that’s a lotta sand), and Blindflug promises no two playthroughs of the game will be the same thanks to a large quest pool. Cloud Chasers will be out on the App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon App Store on October 15. It looks like it’s one special journey.
